Turtles magnificent

Today and several other parts of animals series of terrarium animals will be devoted to aquatic turtles. Turtles, there are many species inhabit different habitats (ie areas with certain conditions and climate), their life is always in some way linked to the aquatic environment.

Some species combine staying in the water to stay on land, the need for time spent in water for different types of concrete. There are species of turtles that water leaving at least (as in sea turtles is only when the females crawl ashore to nakladla eggs) or, conversely, turtles, aquatic environment, which seek only seasonally or just like chicks. Turtles are spread across all of them habitable, parts of the world - inhabit ditches, swamps, dead arms, major and minor rivers and streams, brackish water (estuaries into the sea where salty seawater mixed with fresh river), lake , ponds, reservoirs. Different species are able to live in very different circumstances,from natural drinking troughs in the African savannah to the cold rugged mountain streams in Southeast Asia.
Here we focus on the most frequently imported into the Czech Republic and farmed species, which originate from the American continent, mostly in North America. They are river and lake turtles, which include the most beautiful imported turtle (Trachemys scripta), the Mississippi turtle (Graptemys Graptemys pseudogeographica kohnii and pseudogeohraphica pseudogeographica), map turtle (Graptemys geographica), Nelson's turtle (Pseudemys nelsoni) and many others, them with related species and subspecies nor accurate and consistent labeling Czech (genera Trachemys, Graptemys, Pseudemys, Chrysemys, etc.).Often it is a very attractively colored species, which mainly young bright colors stand out, both the carapace and the soft body parts. What size are concerned, they are also very diverse, reaching the size of the carapace in adults from approximately 13 cm (male Graptemys geographica and kohnii) to 44 cm (female Pseudemys concinna). Like all other reptiles, turtles and grow throughout life, but the greatest increase in size and weight is carried out in the first months and years of life, what the animal is older, thus the growth slows. Discards the old skin, the soft body parts they regularly peels in shreds, the shells are separated by a thin top plate scales, under which it has created a new scale
