Inflammatory ear polyps in cats
Ear polyps, which are also technically called aural polyp is a particular disease occurring only in cats. Polyps can be thought of as a special pouch mucosa, which in remission ear cavity, causing mechanical disruption of their presence and the environment may predispose to the emergence of inflammatory conditions. They are often not recognized and therefore is carried out repeated treatment with topical antibiotics, corticosteroids, anti-yeast medication or usnimu psoriasis.
Most affected individuals around the age of three. The disease can therefore occur already at very young cats. Sometimes, unfortunately, right ear polyp diagnosed at the age when a cat for 10 years or more, as it happened to us recently. These cats were lifelong inflammation in the ear. Often the polyp can be deduced after the owner of communication, that inflammation has long been treated with different preparations without long-term effect. The need is definitely tell that the cat is in the presence of polyps growing from the middle ear on the affected side of the deaf, jejikoz is damaged eardrum and hearing bones are oppressed. When two-way process is completely deaf cat, which can occur on its behavior. Surgical therapy is only a relatively good prognosis for the future.
Clinical signs
For completeness, it is necessary to add that the polyps in cats may occur elsewhere than in one of the outer ear canal. They can be located in both ears, Eustachian tube, nasopharynx, nose, upper airways, such as the trachea. Clinical symptoms are so manifest, depending on where the polyp is located. We can observe difficulty breathing, snoring, sneezing, purulent nasal discharge from the ears. In the case of ear polyps can be supplemented by further signs of neurological problems. This is where the problem is extended to the middle ear (tympanic so-called bull).
Diagnostics
Thorough examination of the patient can quickly determine an accurate diagnosis, determine the location of polyps and initiate effective treatment. Most widely available test is the so-called external ear canal otoscope, when introducing a light source directly into the ear and can be seen through a magnifying glass pink masses. Most meat is not directly visible because it is hidden under the surface of purulent fluid, which in this case is necessary to remove the ear swab. Today we no longer available and video otoscopes, which can transfer an image onto the screen and show the owner what the problem is his cat.The mere finding of the masses in the ear canal is still not satisfied and the diagnosis. Many pathology looks like, and therefore we must not forget that the mass in the ear canal can also cause other than just cause ear polyp. The so-called differential diagnosis we must not forget the possible presence of foreign bodies such as beard, abscesses, trauma, or various types of tumors. Further tests must be made in partial anesthesia patient, reduces stress on the handle and thus can more thoroughly investigate all of the above described localization of polyps. Anaesthesia may be too deep because the examination is not painful and the owner does not have to worry about your animal's life. Most often we choose a short-acting intravenous anesthetics, which have short half-life,and the patient wakes almost immediately after the necessary examination. For quality evaluation is appropriate use of the endoscope, especially when a suspicion of a polyp in the breathing tube and nose. Radiographic examination is necessary for a finding of a pathological condition in the middle ear, as previously mentioned so-called tympanickych bul. The most sensitive is the use of modern imaging techniques such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. These methods are available but difficult and costly. During examination under anesthesia, we must not forget to take samples for laboratory examination, which we will confirm the final diagnosis. It is essential to sample for microbiological examination, histological examination of excess tissue and cytologic examination.Necessary to avoid confusion ear polyp such as tumor growth.
